Rock Climbing Courses
We run weekend rock climbing courses for beginners and for those who would like to learn to lead climb, on dates suitable for your group. Courses are based at Thornbridge Outdoors, near Bakewell in the Peak District or in Snowdonia. All courses cover movement on rock, belaying, rope skills and equipment. We are able to provide expert instruction, food and accommodation and all of the necessary equipment as part of the course cost.
Scottish Winter Courses
Our Scottish Winter Courses are designed for groups who wish to learn the essential skills to walk or climb safely in the mountains in winter conditions. Long weekends, as well as a full week of winter skills are popular, with the courses based either in the Cairngorms or Glencoe. If the course is part of the preparation for your overseas expedition, your expedition leader will be involved in the instruction. The following activities are normally included in the programme:
Walking with ice axe and crampons
Ice axe arrest
Navigation skills
Avalanche awareness
Guidebooks and route selection
Introduction to winter climbing
Overnight in a bothy
Alpine Courses
Each summer, our parent company Jagged Globe runs an extensive programme of Alpine Mountaineering Courses in the French and Swiss Alps, with over 300 participants. As part of this programme, we run Alpine Introduction courses in Arolla for school and youth groups, as well as the famous Haute Route glaciated journey from Chamonix to Zermatt. We use IFMGA Qualified British Mountain Guides, who regularly work with young people on these courses. An Alpine Course serves as excellent preparation for those considering a mountaineering expedition in the Greater Ranges.
