// Expedition Training
From support from our fully staffed office, Regional Coordinators and your expedition leader, to a training day at your school and additional training, as required, we ensure that everyone taking part is well prepared for the expedition.

Initial Training Day
Between six and nine months prior to departure, there will be a training and information day at the school. This is an ideal opportunity for school staff, team members and parents to meet their expedition leader. The programme for this training event will include problem solving exercises and presentations on the destination, culture, expedition programme and health and safety matters. Staff and students will be issued with an Expedition Dossier, which contains everything they should need to help them prepare, from a detailed equipment list, to information on vaccinations and visas. At the end of the day, your expedition leader will know all of your names, and have taught you some invaluable skills to take on the expedition.

Expedition Training Weekend
Skiing!, 8 kb
Skiing!
The Initial Training Day is followed by an expedition training weekend, which is run by your leader and based in either the Peak District, the Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia or the Cairngorms. The weekend will be an introduction to living and working together and will stress the importance of the level of teamwork necessary for a successful expedition. During the weekend, team members will agree on a code of conduct and also spend a day walking in the local hills. This training weekend will also feature further discussion on aspects of expedition planning, such as equipment, acclimatisation to high altitude and medical issues.

Technical Courses
Depending on the experience of team members, schools with a technical aspect to their expedition (such as mountaineering or canoeing) often complete additional training. These courses are directed by the expedition leader and provide a further opportunity for the team to bond, as well as teaching essential techniques for example a Scottish Winter Skills Course, based in the Cairngorms

Final meeting and loan/hire of equipment
Two weeks prior to departure your team will receive a final travel briefing, and any loan or hire equipment will also be delivered to the school.

Students receive a comprehensive equipment list upon booking and we have arranged a favourable discount at Cotswold Outdoor for them. They can supply specialist outdoor clothing and equipment.
