Argentina, 4 kbSeason – November - March
Duration– 21 day expeditions

Patagonia is the name given to the southern half of the country. The origins of the name are obscure but it is said the name was given by Magellan's crew who wintered near the present day Santa Cruz in 1520. They encountered the tall Tehuelche Indians who wore moccasins that made their feet look exceptionally large - leading them to apply the name from the Spanish word Patta meaning paw or foot.

After a night in Buenos Aires we fly on to Trelew, which is on the country's Atlantic coast. This is the heart of the Welsh speaking community. On landing we drive to the nearby town of Gaiman, our base for the next few days. As well as meeting with the locals, we travel to the Valdes Peninsula, which is a wildlife sanctuary where it is possible to see whales at certain times of the year. We then travel West to the Patagonian Lake District, an area not unlike ours, with mountains, lakes and forests. Here we spend the next five days exploring the area and taking a four day trek through this beautiful mountainous region. On completing the trek, we have a chance to celebrate the completion of our expedition before travelling back to Trelew and Buenos Aires for our flight home.
