Canada, 5 kbSeason – May - November
Duration– 14 - 21 day expeditions

The snow-capped, glaciated peaks and granite faces of the Coastal Mountains dominate the Pacific Coast of British Columbia in Western Canada. The glaciers descend into valleys, shrouded in temperate rainforest and deep fjords and inlets.

After flying to Vancouver, groups travel to their base in the Bella Coola Valley where Alexander Mackenzie became the first European to reach the Pacific Ocean in 1793. The main part of the programme is a wilderness adventure, based in the heart of the Coastal Mountains, at the gateway to the Great Bear Rainforest. There are two days' trekking and acclimatisation before the main trek, which is typically a nine-day self-sufficient journey, travelling by foot and canoe through the range. Highlights include the Hunlen Falls Trail to Turner Lake, with views of one of the highest waterfalls in the world. There is the opportunity to swim in fresh water lakes and bike one of the local trails. At the end of the expedition, students can explore the city of Vancouver, or relax by the sea before returning home.
