Season – Year round
Duration– 14 - 28 day expeditions
Ecuador may be the smallest of the Andean countries, but its landscape is as diverse as its many indigenous cultures. The country's capital, Quito, has a beautifully preserved colonial character and you may practice your Spanish in
the many bustling Indian markets. Within a day's travel from the city, it is possible to access a wild landscape dominated by impressive snow-capped volcanoes, the dense rainforest of the Amazon basin and picture-postcard tropical beaches.
An expedition to Ecuador usually involves a trek by foot or horseback through Cotopaxi National Park, with walks to the summits of volcanoes and a journey deep into the jungle. Groups with mountaineering experience can make an ascent of Cotopaxi (5,897m), which is the highest active volcano in the world. Past Adventureworks teams have reached the snow-capped summit, after a programme of acclimatisation, which includes ascents of lower mountains. Expeditions that involve a climbing element are always led by highly experienced and qualified mountaineering leaders.
Adventureworks is involved in a number of long-running community projects in El Quinal and Ambarto, where students can get involved with the local school and activities such as tree planting. We have also established strong links with Clarita Luz children's home where groups have helped build playhouses and equipment, repair buildings and teach and play with the children. Ecuador also has plenty of other things on offer, such as rafting down the Rio Napo or gorge and waterfall scrambles. We have an excellent in-country team in Ecuador, with past groups commenting on the quality of our local guides and helpers, as well as the huts, haciendas and campsites that we use.
