// Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan, 4 kbSeason – June - August
Duration– 21 - 28 day expeditions

Kyrgyzstan has an unsettled history of being overrun by its larger neighbours, Russia and China. This, together with the nomadic lifestyle of many of its people, makes it a country with much to interest the visitor, both culturally and in its fine mountain architecture. The country has seen many invasions over the centuries, with the ancestors of today's Kyrgyz people probably migrated from Siberia in the 10th Century BC. Many of the people still keep to the nomadic life style, often living in villages during the harsh winter and hunting and taking their herd's of horses to the high mountain plains or steppes in summer.

Our programmes are based around trekking in the Ala-Archa region in the Adygene Valley or the Ak-Say Canyon, which leads to the Ak-Say Glacier with the option of ascents of an easy peak. Crossing high-mountainous passes which gives spectacular views of many of the countries mountain ranges, the trek will end at two of the countries most beautiful lakes, Kara-Suu and Sary-Chelek, which are surrounded by lush green forests.

For the more adventurous group, it is possible to undertake a mountaineering programme summitting some of the many virgin peaks in the area.

Activities such as a visit to nomadic hunters and horsemen on the steepe add to this interesting itinerary. You can see photo's from previous expeditions in our photo gallery
