The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (7th Nov)
This year some 400 participants have completed expedition training, practice and qualifying expeditions in the UK, Europe and further afield with us.
As a licensed ‘Commercial Access Organisation’ to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, we are able to provide experienced and qualified trainers, supervisors and assessors at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Whether it be a Gold Expedition in the Peak District or an expedition to Ladakh, we are able to tailor your expedition to meet the requirements of the Award. See Trip Reports from the British School in Paris and Broxbourne School, for an idea of how this might work.
Meeting your leader (6th Nov)
Throughout the Autumn term, our leaders have been meeting expedition participants and their parents at a training day at school. This is an exciting time for everyone involved as they start to look forward to their expeditions next year. At these training days, we are getting to know each other through some team building and starting to discuss issues such as equipment and safety.
Training weekends
Some groups decide to have a more extensive training weekend with their leader. These residential weekends are a great way of developing your team spirit and skills, as well as providing specialist training related to the expedition programme, if required.
Wollaston School have just completed their training weekend for their forthcoming expedition to Ecuador. One of their teachers commented:
"The Adventureworks Staff were outstanding, the planning and preparation for our expedition was excellent, as was the food during the weekend."
Fund Raising (5th Nov)
Neal Short, led an Expedition to the summit of Everest this spring for Adventureworks' parent company, Jagged Globe. Last week he gave a free lecture on his experiences at Westholme School, who used this as a fund raising event. Fund raising is always a challenge for expedition participants. Our fund-raising pack contains lots of useful ideas and we often run slideshows such as Neal's.
British School in Paris - D of E Gold Training (3rd Nov)
Adventureworks Duke of Edinburgh's Award Supervisor, Ian Fenton has posted up a report from a recent D of E Gold Training Expedition in the Peak District. Boys from the British School in Paris flew over to the UK in October and despite some appallingly wet weather, took to the task with great maturity. In poor conditions, they navigated their way along the route and even managed to run the last kiliometre. See Ian's report... [read more]
