News for June 2007

BSES reccy to Ladakh (21st Jun)
[Lasermola La, 33 kb]At the end of May, two members of the BSES (British Schools Exploring Society) set out on a reccy expedition for a possible expedition to Ladakh in India in 2008, which will be supported logistically by Adventureworks.
The aim of the expedition was to cover the planned route with both the side valleys of the main Nubra trekking route being explored, identify camp sites and set mountaineering objectives. All this was achieved despite the late snows and low temperatures.

The team are now putting together their reports to start the planning process with Adventureworks for the expedition in 2008.

If you are interested in joining this expedition visit their website.

Some photos from the expedition can be found in our photo gallery

Water Skills Leader Training (18th Jun)
[The Adventureworks leader team at the water skills training weekend., 57 kb]At the beginning of June, our leaders took part in a water safety course held in South Wales. The 2 day course trained them in river and sea rescue situations as well theory sessions for river and sea management and skills with various rescue devises. This forms part of our continual training process for our leaders and forms an annual event in the Adventureworks calendar.

Spring Round Up! (4th Jun)
[Steep descent, 10 kb]All Adventureworks staff and leaders have been busy with the last of the pre expedition weekends which are designed so that our teams are as prepared for their expeditions as possible. All of the weekends are tailored to the needs for the team, be this jungle training, learning jungle craft and practicing sleeping in hammocks or gaining experience in using an ice axe and crampons in Scotland.

We have also begun a whole host of Duke of Edinburgh's Award expeditions. Groups have been completing expeditions, from Bronze to Gold level, in Scotland, the Lake District, Snowdonia, the Brecon Beacon, the Peak District, Ashdown Forest and Shropshire. During the summer months we will support many more expeditions which will keep our leader team active.

If you would like information concerning a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition please contact the office on 0845 345 8850 or email info@adventureworks.co.uk where either Claire or Tess will be able to discuss your ideas with you.
