Teacher training weekend report (28th Apr)
Last weekend we held a teacher training weekend in the Black Mountains of South Wales at Longtown Outdoor Centre. On Saturday, the programme began with a 4 hour expedition first aid session before heading out to the Black Darren for an introduction to group management techniques whilst trekking. This included security on steep group and the use of a rope by the leader if necessary as well as the equipment used by leaders on expedition. Most vital was the group shelter, used by every group as a hail squall swept through! Some photos are available in our photo gallery.
On Sunday, the day was spent in the Ystrafellta gorge, travelling as a team and encountering various obstacles and situations along the way. These ranged from river crossings, to managing a group swimming session and rocky descents. Some groups definitely got wetter than others!
This training weekend was combined with the opportunity to ask any questions about our expedition destinations or to discuss specific expeditions for 2009 and 2010. In the evening, the group were entertained by a slide show by Guy Jarvis of a possible new destination, Jordan.
If you were unable to attend this weekend, we will be holding another event next year. The details will be finalised after the summer break and published on our website.
If you would like the opportunity to find our a little more about Adventureworks before this and be inspired by our destinations, please contact Tessa on 0845 345 8850 or email info@adventureworks.co.uk . She will be happy to talk to you on the phone or arrange a time for one of our experienced regional coordinators to come and speak to you in your school.
A wintery pre expedition weekend! (1st Apr)
The team from Wolverhampton Grammar School heading to Peru this summer, have recently returned from a 4 day course in the Cairngorms. This was essential preparation for their ascent of Pisco in Peru. The team battled some wintery conditions with temperatures as low as -15C!

We have also uploaded some photos of the courses onto our photo gallery.
