Adventureworks leader training weekend (30th Sep)
Last weekend, 30 Adventureworks leaders met at Longtown Outdoor Centre for a review of this year and a chance to gain some additional training.
On Friday, Dom Hall from FieldSkills delivered a Tropical Skills training day for our leaders going to Borneo next summer. Here they had the opportunity to learn the use of a machete, put up hammocks as well as learn about jungle safety, lost and found techniques and jungle flora and fauna.
On Saturday we held our annual forum where this years summer expeditions were reviewed as well as talks form Bob Burson, Northampton's Outdoor Education Advisor and Jo McCready on development and enrichment training. There was also the opportunity to take part in medical workshops run by doctors from the 'Diploma of Mountain Medicine' on topics such as asthma, diabetes, anaphylactic shock as well as a question and answer session.
On Sunday the group travelled to Ystrafellta where teams travelled around a series of scenarios based on working at the water margins such as dealing with a group following a river, washing and swimming sites and medical issues.
