Saturday evening the coach arrived from Paris and the population of the beautiful medieval village of Orpierre was increased from about 300 to 380 for the week. We slickly moved the whole group towards their evening meal (not too difficult with hungry youths!). Though we did manage to loose one whole gite, but rumbling stomachs rapidly lead them to the correct gite.

Sunday started sunny and clear, though not boiling hot. Perhaps a good thing. The activities all went very well, and the evening was spent with the whole group undertaking the 'Village Quest' to get them exploring this fascinating medieval village, realising where all the boys were housed in the gites within the village, and exploring the fountains.
The activities continued on Monday, with the weather demonstrating a stunning example of the Mistral coming in, the sky totally clearing to an azure blue, with a strong cool wind, the south of France still produces surprises! A sports competition taking place in the evening taking us up to lights out.
Other evening activities in The UCPA ( a fantastic hostel the girls were based in) were a film (St Trinninans) which went down very well, and the director of the UCPA giving a talk and film on climbing.
We had managed to organise a disco for their final evening; getting the use of two loud speakers that were purchased in 1997 for a French National Climbing Festival that was held in Orpierre the evening was a fantastic success (some of the staff had ear plugs in!).
A special thanks must go to all the BSP staff for being totally involved using both gites within a medieval village, and the UCPA; but most of all to all the pupils, who we and the village are looking forward to welcoming back next year!
