Report nameBritish School of Paris Activity week - Les Ecrins
Date submittedJun-09

From 30th May to 6th June 2009 47 students (13-14 yr olds) and 5 teachers from The British School of Paris (BSP) completed “The Adventureworks Alpine Adventure”. The students, who comprised the entire BSP Year 9, all successfully completed a wide range of activities that included white water rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, Tyrolean zip lines, Via Ferrata courses, mountain hiking, ice climbing and glacier travel. Added highlights included a night at a mountain refuge (Glacier Blanc – 2,550m.), presentations from Hautes Alpes Expert Laurent Batiste, and leading UK Expedition Climber Jerry Gore, and a visit to the Vauban military fort overlooking Briançon.

The course programme came under the banner of “Achievable Challenge” whereby each day built progressively on skills, fitness and adrenaline. On the final day all the students completed an 18 hour day which involved a mountain hike at an altitude of 2,500m., a glacier crossing, the visit to the Briançon fort, and a swim in the local hydro pool. The week passed with a great deal of real fun and excitement was enjoyed by all.
